Solidarity and Human Commitment to the Most Vulnerable

Where: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Medjugorje
Medjugorje is known throughout the world as a place of prayer, spirituality and pilgrimage. However, its recent history shows another aspect of this small town in Bosnia and Herzegovina: its commitment to the most vulnerable, especially refugees.
During the Balkan Wars (1991–1995), Medjugorje became a refuge for thousands of people forced to flee their homes. Many parishes and families organized to create refugee camps and offer a safe haven.

Today, the same spirit endures.

Ongoing initiatives are in place to support and assist poor families in the region’s shelters. We, too, want to stand by these families. Humanitarian aid is the first step in restoring hope, strength, and dignity to those who have lost everything.

The testimony

The many volunteers in Medjugorje emphasize the value of every individual, regardless of their circumstances. Every day, they fight indifference and work to combat the loneliness of those in need.
